![]() ![]() What drove humans to risk their lives on open water? How did early sailors unlock the secrets of winds, tides, and the stars they steered by? What were the earliest ocean crossings like? With compelling detail, Fagan reveals how seafaring evolved so that the forbidding realms of the sea gods were transformed from barriers into a nexus of commerce and cultural exchange. From the moment when ancient Polynesians first dared to sail beyond the horizon, Fagan vividly explains how our mastery of the oceans changed the course of human history. We know the tales of Columbus and Captain Cook, yet much earlier mariners made equally bold and world-changing voyages. In Beyond the Blue Horizon, archaeologist and historian Brian Fagan tackles his richest topic yet: the enduring quest to master the oceans, the planet’s most mysterious terrain. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So all convicted criminals are sexual abusers huh? But not you.? And then Derek had the audacity to say men who have been convicted criminals don’t usually “ask” before taking what they want. I know some people like dub-con or non-con and that’s fine, but on top of the abuse of power, the rapey vibes were not okay. Multiple times throughout the book Shawn tells Derek to stop, and says no, or says he’s going too far and Derek doesn’t stop, and or coerces Shawn to keep going. He then went on to use Shawn as a prostitute knowing he was desperate for money to literally survive and keep his scholarship. But he had zero resistance to letting his student suck him off for a grade? Even if we pretend this wasn’t entirely unrealistic and uncharacteristic - it was incredibly wrong and manipulative. Derek was meant to be famous for being a great professor, caring about his work, pulling a lot of research grants, a real hardass teacher. I don’t have anything against this trope between two consenting adults tbh, but it was not okay in this book. It looked pretty highly rated on GR tooīut guys, this book was not okay, and I’m open to anyone who disagrees but I just wanted to share my thoughts I’ve been recommended this author a lot so i thought I’d give it a go. To preface: For anyone who likes these books, I’m not trying to shame you, especially with the student trope and non-consent because I know some people like it written like this - but I do think the dealing with children was undeniably wrong. ![]() ![]() ![]() Located in the historic Sunshine Ballard Cottage in Berea, the store also carries branded coffee mugs and t-shirts, and the Buckmasters plan to commission local artists for new T-shirt designs over the next few months. Asimov mentioned "Question" in an editorial called "Plagiarism" which appeared in the August 1985 issue of Asimov's Science Fiction (although he did not mention Townes' name or the title of either story). He then replied to Townes, apologizing and promising the story would never again be published, and it never was. Why does everybody call their galaxy The Galaxy Why does that bother the characters Man built the original Multivac but how do the latest computers. Multivac, however, supplies the answer on its own.Īfter the reprint, another author, Robert Sherman Townes, noticed the climax in the last sentence was very similar to one of his own stories, "Problem for Emmy" ( Startling Stories, June 1952), and wrote to Asimov about it. Hirshboeck said of Rankins. Whether full-time residential treatment would have made a difference will never be known, he said. More than a dozen years later, attorney David Hirshboeck, who had represented Rankins, said the boys never got the help they needed in prison. But acting on the recommendation of state child-welfare authorities, Kelly sentenced both to prison with one caveat - that they receive therapy and other services from corrections staffers. Their lawyers had argued the two needed to be placed in a treatment facility for troubled youths to have any shot at living normal lives. But Illinois reacted swiftly to the boys' arrest for Eric's murder, enacting a new law that lowered the age to 10 from 13 at which offenders could be sentenced to prison. Those fears ultimately proved groundless, as crime by minors plummeted across the country in the intervening years. ![]() ![]() While films do maintain the plot, they tell a story in a different way. ![]() When writing, it may be useful to compare an original written work to film adaptations that have been made. However, these differences can make audiences have a warped perception of how actual tribes lived and fought for their rights. ![]() While added violence and some clothing differences are key, they do not change the main theme taken from this novel. Instead of having separate parts, it all runs together to provide viewers with a simplified storyline that is easy to follow. Overall, storylines remain the same but are presented in a different way on film. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Is there such thing as meant to be?
